The padlock is the locking method. It passes through the mounting tab on the cover. The key tag is a small tag you can write on so you can keep track of the combination or identify the key. There is no keyed lock and no separate key for the padlock beyond the combination. Keep the combination somewhere safe, because a lost combination means the padlock has to be cut off.

How to fit and use it

1. Turn the faucet off and remove any hose, splitter or quick connector.
2. Slide the cover over the faucet body so the mounting tab lines up with a clear spot.
3. Push the cover on until it sits flush against the wall or the faucet base.
4. Thread the combination padlock through the mounting tab.
5. Scramble the dials and give the padlock a tug to confirm it is locked.

To remove it, enter the combination, pull the padlock out of the tab, and slide the cover off. The cover is small enough to store in a shed, a garage drawer or a hose bag when it is not in use. Because it is stainless steel, it can be wiped down and put away without much fuss.

Care and maintenance

Wipe the cover with a damp cloth and mild soap, then dry it with a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive pads or harsh cleaners, which can dull the stainless steel finish. Check the padlock every few months. A drop of light oil in the shackle area keeps the lock working smoothly through wet seasons.
