What this shade cloth is

This is a black shade cloth made of PE mesh. The mesh blocks sun and resists UV, so it holds up through long, bright seasons outdoors. It lets rain through instead of trapping water on top, which keeps the cloth light and reduces sagging after a storm.

Grommets run along the taped edge. The taped edge adds strength where the cloth is pulled tight, and the grommets give you fixed points to tie rope, cord or bungee through. Mounting hardware is not included, so plan on using your own rope or ties.

Measure your space before you order. Add a little extra if you plan to angle the cloth, since a sloped run needs more length than a flat one.

Color and style

This shade cloth comes in black. Black mesh cuts glare and reads as a neutral against most homes, fences and garden structures. The taped edge gives the border a clean, finished line, and the grommets sit in that border at set points.

How to fit and use it

Measure the area you want to shade. Check the width and the length at the points where you will anchor the cloth.
Choose a size from the table. When in doubt between two sizes, think about how much overlap you want at the edges.
Find your anchor points: posts, rails, hooks, beams or fence lines. Mounting hardware is not included, so gather rope, cord or ties that fit your anchors.
Run your line through each grommet and tie it off. Work from one corner to the next so the cloth stays square as you go.
Pull the cloth snug but not tight. A little slack helps it shed rain and move with the wind.
Angle the cloth if you want shade at a certain time of day. A slope toward the sun gives more cover when the light is low.

A few notes from real use. Leave a gap between the cloth and any solid surface so air can move through. If you use it over plants, keep enough height for growth and for you to reach under it. In open spots, tie down every grommet you can reach, since an untied corner will flap.

Care

Rinse the cloth with water to clear dust and pollen. Let it dry fully before you store it. Store it folded or rolled in a dry spot, away from standing water. Check the ties and grommets at the start of each season and replace any worn line before it snaps.
