The shell is 210D Oxford cloth. That weave is dense and durable, which suits a cover that stays outside season after season. The fabric is waterproof and dustproof, so water runs off instead of soaking through and dust stays off the lid and grates.

The cover comes in black. A dark cover blends with most patios, decks and backyards and hides the smudges that lighter fabrics tend to show.

Measure your grill at its widest point, including the side handles and any shelf that stays attached. Then measure the height from the ground or base to the top of the lid. If your grill measures at or under 28 x 29 in (71 x 73 cm), this cover is the right fit.

A round cover like this one suits kettle-style grills. It is not shaped for rectangular carts, flat-top griddles or built-in islands, so check the shape as well as the numbers.

How to put it on

Let the grill cool completely before you cover it. A warm lid can trap heat and moisture under the fabric.

Clean the grates and empty the ash catcher so debris does not sit under the cover.
Slide the cover down over the lid from the top.
Pull the hem down past the handles so the fabric hangs evenly on all sides.
Smooth out any folds so water does not pool in one spot.

Take the cover off before you light the grill. Fold it and store it in a dry spot while you cook, then put it back on once the grill has cooled.

Care and storage

Shake off loose dust and leaves before you remove the cover. For a deeper clean, wipe the fabric with a damp cloth and mild soap, then let it air dry fully before you put it back on the grill.

Avoid harsh cleaners, bleach and abrasive brushes. They can break down the coating that makes the cloth waterproof.

During long stretches of heavy rain or snow, check the cover now and then. Clear off standing water and snow so the weight does not pull the fabric out of shape. If you store the grill for the season, put the cover on a dry grill and keep both in a dry place.
